We still a ways to go in terms of gender equity do we not? The pressures are still on women to 'postpone' their own professional careers to fit to a man's emotional career?

Great thought provoking piece Renata

Social expectations remain strong and, as noted in comments elsewhere, the onus placed on men to commit.

The rise of single parent families where it is so often the Mother who is taking responsibility is something we continue to have across this World. From my own working life in East Africa through to reading studies by Julius Wilson (When Work Disappears stands as a real social anthropological insight to complement this piece), we witness the choices regularly reflecting a lack of responsibility when it comes to commitment - physically, emotionally and the deeper spiritual element that must be taken up with love well beyond the lust of early, dare we say formative (since some never seem to learn?)

Commitment. Reciprocity. Partnership. Complementarity of body, soul and spirit. A union more than a consociation for the sake of some external drivers?
