Sports and management have become ever more conjoined given the dynamic of task, team and individual.
Interestingly, the STEM to football (I am European by sports upbringing) is an interesting one and great you found the positives from this display. The analogy line breaks down and allow a bit of iteration now we are at the semi-final stage of the World Cup.
The US team has not stayed up to date and a few of the players are defending the their past achievements rather than looking at the next stages in individual and team growth. We all have to stay current and a quality coach manager is already looking at what next?
Sense is too many (older?) men in STEM may well feel challenged by fresh thinking, new knowledge and so default to the alpha (male) style - making people, women particularly, uncomfortable if down right not appreciated.
Solidarity and further actions on the evidence is necessary in all facets where we still have massive challenges for equality of treatment let alone achieving equity.
Thanks for the thought provocations and looking forward to a new name on the World Cup - come on England :-)
