Good piece, enjoyed reading the personal aspects — knowing what you know and do not know; felt a kindred spirit.

Gone down a similar path to you Rajeet. A few years older, been there and done it before and returned to competitive running (and some football) mixed with the joys of cycling to savour countryside. Fundamental was being pushed hard, inside and by those around me, in my formative years and this basis of muscle and pyschological (The brain as a muscle) factors stands us oldies in good stead.
