Good grief - this is a great example of just how weak managerial practice was (is?) in a seemingly large consulting firm.
Reinforces the need to ask exactly what a client company is looking for when asking a consulting firm to come in.
To consult - seek advice or information? Ask the credentials of someone since in the kingdom of the blind the myopic seem to be relied on for vision without looking at the use of other senses to determine where we are and what we are looking to do.
The psychological safety of 'asking in a consulting firm' has more to do with Linus' blanket than developing an internal capacity and capability to draw the best from people (and systems noting how these can impact psyche)
