Even to this day, people are out of touch with the realities of the majority in these places.

I reread, twice, Heart of Darkness when I found I could think and talk about the Rwandan Genocide (where I was a witness and a definite bit part stakeholder in the last days of the murdering and abuse of so many people).

I did not talk about it with anyone other than my colleagues of the time for 25 years because the words simply did not reflect what people felt. Not so much out of touch but unable to comprehend the brutality of daily living and then a 100 days of killing and abuse followed by further brutal regimes to eck a living
